1. Who we are
makemywedding.ai is operated by Danny O'Neill, trading as makemywedding.ai ("we", "us"). We are the data controller for the personal information described in this policy.
Contact for anything in this policy: hello@makemywedding.ai.
2. Information we collect
Your account. Your email address, and your name and profile details if you sign in with Google. Authentication is handled by our provider Supabase; we never see or store your Google password.
Your wedding planning information. The choices you make during onboarding and while planning: wedding style and traditions, season, regions, guest count range, budget band, venue-type preferences, vibe and palette selections, the concepts and images you generate, save or pin, and your conversations with Atlas.
A note on sensitive inferences. Some planning choices can reveal things about you that UK data protection law treats as special category data - for example, ceremony traditions may indicate a religion, and dietary requirements you record for guests may indicate religion or health. We process these details only because you choose to provide them and only to deliver the service you have asked for (matching, planning and catering-relevant features). We never use them for anything else.
Your guest information. Names, email addresses, household groupings, sides, RSVP responses, dietary notes and similar details - provided either by you, or directly by your guests when they respond through your wedding website. You are responsible for making sure you are entitled to share your guests' details with us (in practice: only add people you would legitimately invite and contact about your own wedding). Guest information is used solely to provide your planning tools - invitations, RSVP tracking, seating - and is never used for marketing or shared beyond the providers listed in section 6.
Photos and content you upload. Wedding website photos, and any images or files you add while planning. Photos you place on your published wedding website are public to anyone with the link; everything else you upload is private to your account.
Payment information. Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your card number. We keep records of your subscription status, plan and billing history.
Technical information. Standard server logs and security data (such as hashed identifiers used for rate-limiting public pages), used to keep the service secure and working. We also keep first-party records of how the product's features are used - such as when an upgrade prompt is shown - to improve the service; these stay on our servers and are never shared or used for advertising. We do not run third-party analytics or advertising trackers.
3. Vendor and venue information
This section matters, so it gets its own space.
The vendor and venue profiles you see on makemywedding.ai are compiled by us from publicly available sources - primarily the business's own website and other public listings - using automated collection and AI-assisted summarisation. Each profile notes the number of public sources used and when it was last refreshed.
What that means:
- We have no commercial relationship with the businesses listed. They do not pay us, we do not take commissions, and rankings cannot be bought. A listing is not an endorsement, a verification, or evidence of any partnership.
- Businesses may not be aware they are listed. We list them because their information is public and relevant to couples planning a wedding, on the lawful basis of our legitimate interests in operating a genuinely independent discovery service (and, we believe, their legitimate interests in being discoverable by potential customers).
- The information may be out of date or incomplete. Public sources change. Always confirm details directly with a business before relying on them.
- Business contact details (such as a public enquiry email) are processed so that you can contact the business yourself. Enquiries drafted on this platform are drafts only - you send them from your own email. We never contact businesses on your behalf.
If you are a vendor or venue: you can ask us to correct your profile or remove it entirely. Email hello@makemywedding.ai with your business name and the change you want, and we will act promptly - normally within 14 days, and immediately for removal requests. You also have all the rights described in section 9.
4. How we use your information
- To provide the service: generating concepts, matching vendors, drafting enquiries, running your guest list, seating, wedding website and RSVPs.
- To personalise what Atlas creates for you, using the preferences you have given us.
- To take payment and manage your subscription.
- To send service emails (sign-in links, invitations and RSVP messages you trigger, billing notices). We do not send marketing emails unless you have expressly opted in, and there is currently nothing to opt in to.
- To keep the service secure, prevent abuse, and meet our legal obligations.
Our lawful bases under UK GDPR are: performance of our contract with you (most of the above), our legitimate interests (security, service improvement, and the vendor catalogue described in section 3), your consent where we ask for it, and legal obligation (tax and accounting records).
5. AI processing
Atlas is powered by third-party AI models: Anthropic (text - planning conversations, summaries, matching explanations, enquiry drafts) and OpenAI (image generation for your concept boards). When you use named vendor search, our search provider (Tavily) is sent the business name you searched, not your personal details.
We send these providers only what is needed for the feature you are using. Under the agreements we rely on, they do not use data sent through our integrations to train their models.
AI-generated content can be wrong. Concept images are illustrative - they do not depict real venues or real products - and Atlas's summaries and suggestions should be checked before you rely on them for anything important.
6. Who we share information with
We share personal information only with the service providers who help us run the platform:
- Supabase - database, authentication and file storage (hosted in the EU, Ireland region)
- Vercel - application hosting
- Stripe - payment processing
- Resend - transactional email (sign-in links, invitations, RSVP emails)
- Anthropic and OpenAI - AI processing, as described in section 5
- Tavily - web search for vendor discovery
- Google - only if you choose to sign in with Google
We do not sell personal information, we do not share it with advertisers, and we do not run ads.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or as part of a business sale or restructuring (in which case this policy would continue to apply to your data).
7. International transfers
Your data is stored primarily in the EU. Some of our providers process data in the United States. Where personal data leaves the UK, we rely on the safeguards UK GDPR permits - including UK adequacy decisions, the UK International Data Transfer Addendum and equivalent contractual protections with our providers.
8. How long we keep information
- Your account and planning data: for as long as your account is active. If you ask us to delete your account, we delete your personal data within 30 days, except where the law requires us to keep it.
- Guest and RSVP data: for as long as you keep it in your account; it is deleted with your account.
- Billing records: kept for as long as UK tax and accounting law requires (generally six years).
- Vendor profiles: retained while the business remains publicly operating and relevant, and removed on request as described in section 3.
9. Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to: access a copy of your personal data; have inaccurate data corrected; have your data deleted; restrict or object to processing (including any processing based on legitimate interests); and receive your data in a portable format.
To exercise any of these, email hello@makemywedding.ai. We will respond within one month.
If you are a wedding guest whose details were added by a couple: you can contact the couple directly, or email us and we will help - including removing your details from our systems at your request.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk). We would appreciate the chance to resolve it first.
10. Cookies
We use only essential cookies: the session cookies required to keep you signed in and the service secure. We do not use advertising, analytics or tracking cookies. Because these cookies are strictly necessary, there is no consent banner to click - there is nothing optional to consent to.
11. Children
makemywedding.ai is for adults planning a wedding. You must be at least 18 to create an account. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
12. Your wedding website is public when you publish it
If you publish a wedding website through the platform, the content you choose to put on it (names, story, photos, event details) is visible to anyone with the link. RSVP responses submitted by your guests are not public - they go only to you. You can unpublish your site at any time.
13. Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we will tell you by email or a notice in the app before they take effect. The "Last updated" date at the top always reflects the current version.
